Discover the fundamentals of nutrition, including macronutrients and micronutrients, and learn how to read nutritional facts labels.
Be guided in developing a personal dietary plan based on your basal metabolic rate, activity factor, and weight-loss or weight-gain goals, using the SMART goal-setting method.
This lesson will be self-paced but guided, and will include hands-on activities, a case study, and handouts, all orchestrated to enhance the learning experience.
This lesson is designed to meet anyone where they are, no matter their cultural background, knowledge base, or accessibility needs.
This first lesson on nutrition is for anyone who wishes to learn a little more about how to fuel their bodies and apply these skills to their personal and cultural preferences.
This lesson includes a discovery of a handful of the different complementary and integrative medicine modalities.
Learn about current efficacy research on the CIM modalities discussed in class and practice searching for high-quality research themselves.
Once you learn about the modalities in question, try your hand at helping a friend locate a CIM practitioner in a realistic case study.
Then, create your own personal CIM reference sheet for personal use.
The reason this is important is that there are many opinions about not just CIM but also health and wellness in general. If we boil it down to the etiology (root cause) of the plethora of issues that plague us, we can then begin to know what to look for when combing through loads of research on different treatments or alternative practices and find out what works and what needs more conclusive evidence of efficacy regarding the relationship between disease/illness and the treatment option.
Lesson 3 is all about stress management, using tangible mind-body practices like mindful movement, breathing, and planning techniques.
This class explores the physiology of stress and the role that mind-body practices play in designing a plan for stress resilience.
Foundations of Health and Wellness combines evidence-based nutrition, efficacy-seeking research in complementary and integrative medicine, and stress management techniques to guide you along your path to holistic, healthy living through supported behavior change.
Together, these lessons show the you how to become the hero of your own story by guiding you in developing practical wellness skills and strategies that build the self-efficacy and confidence.
Understand how your body actually works
Have a clear plan for nutrition and lifestyle
Reduce overwhelm and burnout
Build habits that last
